DreamHost announce new content delivery network

DreamHost, the Los Angeles-based web hosting and cloud service provider, has long been a popular choice for leading entrepreneurs and developers. In operation since 1996, they now host well over one million domains, a true testament to the quality of their service.

Now, DreamHost are looking to leverage their large customer base and positive reputation as they attempt to make inroads into the crowded content delivery network (CDN) market with their DreamSpeed CDN offering. The key to their new CDN is that it provides seamless integration with their DreamObjects platform. DreamObjects is a cloud storage service, which is utilised by many of their current customers, and is characterised as being highly affordable, as well as providing great performance.

The DreamSpeed CDN will be powered by Fastly. We have spoken about Fastly in the past, and how their SSD only infrastructure enables super-fast web page updates and load times, so we are certainly positive about the performance potential of DreamSpeed. Fastly has several points of presence (PoPs) for DreamHost to leverage, including major cities around the world such as Los Angeles, New York, London, Hong Kong, Tokyo and Sydeny. This will ensure that DreamHost have access to the largest markets through the most effective hardware.

DreamHost are billing their CDN as being perfect for both blogs and media heavy sites, something they are keen to focus on given the rise of 4K video. They also bill the service as an ideal method through which to lighten the load on users’ core web servers whilst focusing on delivering superior dynamic data acceleration.
