Global CDN Expansion for Ericsson

Global CDN Expansion for EricssonGlobal CDN services are vital for companies looking to improve their online data delivery. As business becomes more and more global, it is increasingly important to ensure they can serve their customers, no matter where in the world they are located. That’s why many of them turn to global CDN services. Content delivery networks operate by storing a website’s data at different points of presence (PoP) around the world. This allows end users to access the PoP geographically closest to them when requesting a website’s data, reducing latency and increasing bandwidth. Therefore, a content delivery network with a wide global presence can serve many more end users than smaller CDNs, giving their customers better service and scope for growth.

Global CDN Benefits

Because of these benefits, many CDN providers are always developing their network to provide their customers with the best possible performance. Now, the latest provider to boost their global CDN is Ericsson. They will be partnering with Equinix, a global datacentre providers, and will be deploying their Unified Delivery Network (UDN) solution across Equinix’s locations around the world. Ericsson’s UDN is already deployed in 14 Equinix locations across Asia, America and Europe, so they will be deployed across eight more locations later this year.

Charles Meyers, Equinix president of Strategy, Services and Innovation, said: “Equinix is constantly looking for innovative solutions, that when combined with our global interconnection platform, provide customers with the opportunity to capitalise on new revenue streams and create value-added services as an extension of their datacenter deployments. With the addition of Ericsson UDN, our customers can more easily deploy a CDN that securely distributes customised content with consistent, reliable and secure on-demand performance.”

Marcus Bergström, Ericsson’s UDN general manager, said: “The last mile nature of our UDN and the location of Equinix facilities in key metros around the world is a perfect fit. This partnership attracts new potential customers for both companies, by enabling them to deploy services closer to end users at the ‘edge’, resulting in higher quality content and more consistent QoE. Consumers are increasingly demanding higher quality content and constant QoE across an increasing number of connected devices”.
