CDN provider growth has been phenomenal this year, with many content delivery network providers securing large contracts with innovative and successful companies in the need of website and data acceleration or telcos looking to expanding CDN-based services for their customers. From Akamai to ChinaCache, some of the world’s biggest CDN providers have announced record contracts and this growth shows no sign of abating thanks to the contact growth in demand for bandwidth heavy internet-based service that necessitates high speed global networks like those offered by CDNs.
The latest CDN provider to partner with a leading telco is Alcatel-Lucent. The company will be providing its Velocix 7810 Digital Media Delivery Platform to Wind, and Italian-based mobile operator and key distributor of online video in the country. Wind is Italy’s third largest mobile operator with about 22 million subscribers and the leading alternative fixed line player, with over three million subscribers. This new development will help the company expand their network and entice new customers to join their services.
